Our History

Founded in 2008 by Armand le Roux, Camdebo initially provided project consulting services to industrial clients, supporting their projects through the planning and engineering phases.

However, it wasn’t long before a deeper need emerged. Our clients needed a partner capable of delivering complete, turnkey solutions requiring the seamless coordination and delivery of planning, engineering and construction phases. Often this work was executed under demanding circumstances subject to tight deadlines. We rose to meet this challenge by assembling agile, best-in-class teams—each carefully selected to match the unique demands of the project. This agile approach, guided by strong leadership, allowed us to deliver consistent results.

These experiences shaped the way we approach project development. We distilled our learnings into a development model adaptable to address each project’s unique demands, yet highly structured to maintain consistency in execution. This philosophy has proven its value on our project delivery ranging from small projects to large projects over R500 million in value.

Today, our mission has evolved to encompass the full project development lifecycle. Where we act as project developers, we take projects from concept development to structuring bankable projects through to successful project execution. We leverage our expertise in development finance to structure and facilitate funding solutions from diverse sources, including development banks and blended finance solutions.

“There are many reasons projects fail, but only a few factors that drives projects to success.”

– Armand le Roux, Founder

Our unique advantage

Many factors contribute to poor project outcomes, but only a few drive success. At Camdebo, we understand that the key differentiator between suboptimal and superior project outcomes, lies in effective project leadership, not just project management.

Our project leadership is exercised through ProjectPrism™, our proprietary development model. ProjectPrism™ is our roadmap to achieve outsized project outcomes enabling us to:

This model has been validated across diverse projects, underpinned by our core development pillars of strategic leadership, agile teams, and robust project risk structuring.

Our proven agile approach to project resourcing recognizes that projects are diverse and unique. We tailor teams with the specific skills set required to fulfil the unique demands of each project and deliver optimum results.

What our clients say

“Camdebo was involved in the engineering and project management of several infrastructure upgrades required with the Camden RTS project. They confirmed our trust in them to deliver when it matters when the Camden RTS team were required to urgently install additional bulk fuel oil capacity to augment a critical shortage in storage capacity.

They assembled the project team on very short notice and delivered the turnkey design and construction of surface infrastructure in record time and without a hitch allowing the installation of the tanks to be completed in time”

Selected Case studies

Emergency Installation of Bulk Fuel Oil Capacity

Crew installing bulk fuel oil storage tanks at an industrial site.

The client had to move a 1000m3 bulk fuel oil tank from another site for emergency augmentation of existing fuel oil.

The scope of work required the emergency turnkey engineering and construction of the foundation support and 5m high bund walls for the tank structure.

The client brief required the whole job to be completed within 12 weeks from approval including design, site establishment, construction and handover.

We identified and assembled the right project team, identified and solved major constraints and risks related to logistics and the site location. The project was completed for successful handover to Steinmuller Engineering tank installation team within the 12 week timeframe.

This success in meeting the client’s brief was build on team selection, providing leadership to the engineering and
construction team in solving logistical and geotechnical problems and identifying the key opportunities to accelerate the complete design and construction process.

Medupi Power Station: Low Pressure Services Infrastructure

Low-pressure piping and structural elements at the Medupi Power Station.

This challenging R600 million rand subcontract involved substantial multi-disciplinary co-ordination and interfacing and was fraught with client delay and disruption events due to the nature of diverse construction activity all over the site.

The project was a design and construction contract and required extensive quality management systems and services. The lead project team members were selected based on their experience with Eskom systems and procedures and familiarity with the specific conditions of contract. Due to extensive design and scope changes as well as the amount of interfacing required between various engineering disciplines, considerable problem solving capabilities had to be applied to solve problems on site as they arose.

The nature of delay and disruption events required extensive strategic input into the contract administration to ensure cost recovery and minimizing potential risk events and costs claims. Providing leadership and foresight to the project team was crucial to minimize delays and disruption. This involved reallocating resources efficiently to prevent cost claims and early insight and identification of interface issues between engineering disciplines.

Fifth on Brooklyn Property Development

Fifth on Brooklyn Property Development

This R60 million luxury sectional title residential apartment complex was developed on two consolidated stands.

From initial market studies, a highly marketable development concept was finalized and subjected to detail feasibility studies.

The professional team was handpicked based on the project strategy and their experience with these type of developments. Development finance was approved upon first round submission as a result of the pre-development planning, the structured risk analysis process followed and preparation of a compelling pitch deck to financiers.

What made this project unique is the procurement process followed which resulted in at least 8% cost savings on construction costs enabled by risk management controls. In addition, a key strength of the selected professional team was their ability to apply value engineering to the designs that lead to savings in construction costs.
